What the colour of your urine can say about your health

0

Everybody pees; that’s a fact. It’s something we do multiple times a day when the urge strikes us. But do you ever take a look at your urine?

It can tell you a lot about your health!

It’s important to know what your urine can tell you about your health.

Urine

The colour of your urine can give you a lot of information about your health. On average, we pee about one to two litres a day, divided over three to eight toilet visits. Of course, this depends on how much you drink during the day as well.

It’s very good to take a good look at your urine every now and then and to see what colour it has.

Your kidneys and urinary tract filter all toxins from your blood and these toxins leave your body via your urine.

The colour, amount and composition can, therefore, tell you a lot about your physical health. Do you drink enough, are you eating enough vitamins or have you caught something?

Colour

Healthy urine is usually clear and light yellow to bright yellow in colour. This is caused by a chemical called urochrome, which is constantly being produced. Does your pee have a different colour?

Find out what it might mean below:

Light yellow

If your urine is very light yellow in colour it could mean you drink too much water. If that’s the case, your urine is practically colourless.

This isn’t something to worry about, but this colour can also occur in diabetics or kidney patients. So, definitely keep an eye on it, especially if you have lowered your water intake and the colour remains light. In that case, you should contact your doctor.

Dark yellow

This often occurs when you’ve drunk too little or have sweated too much. Morning urine is often dark yellow in colour because at that point you haven’t drunk anything in a couple of hours. Make sure you drink enough water during the day!

Cloudy

Sometimes urine can be cloudy. This can have multiple different causes: it might be a bladder infection or it could be an uncommon condition called glomerulonephritis. If your urine is cloudy, it is wise to contact your doctor.

Brown-green

This can be the result of coloured food products, but medicines can also cause this strange colour. Do you not take any medicines or are you in doubt about what might be causing this? Contact your doctor.

Red

Red urine can be caused by eating beets or using a certain medicine, but it might also be that there’s blood in your urine. This can happen when you have a UTI or bladder infection but it can also be caused by something far nastier, like internal injury, kidney problems or cancer. Contact your doctor if you have red urine.

Brown

Brown urine can indicate problems with the liver or gall bladder, like an inflammation of the liver. It also can indicate a blockage of the bile duct, fistula or a bladder infection. Always contact your doctor if this is happening.

5 Crucial Reasons Why Corporal Punishment Is an Awful Way to Raise a Child

0

Physical punishment is a common method used to “educate” spoiled or disobedient children, at least 4 out of 5 parents do it, and 9 out of 10 times, it’s a woman — either the mom or the caretaker.

Some don’t hesitate to give a spanking to their kids, and the most desperate use whatever they can manage to find in their hand, like a belt.

But even though they think they’re putting their kids on the right track, and believe their actions are harmless at the end, research shows that it’s not just damaging, but it doesn’t work.

1. It doesn’t work and it makes matters worse.

It’s true, children can be pushy and parents patience has its limits, but when they resort to spanking, they won’t achieve anything.

Research shows that violence doesn’t work in the long run as a way to discipline a kid, because they need to internalize the causes behind their bad behavior.

In other words, kids need to understand; they need an explanation for why the way they’re conducting themselves is not proper. Violence is just a quick way to stop the child’s actions.

2. It’s the pathway to being an abusive parent with an abused kid.

Research shows that the majority of child abuse cases began with a spanking. Given that corporal punishments don’t work, parents usually increase the amount of force used the next time their kid doesn’t behave properly.

Each time, they expect it to have a permanent disciplinary effect, and that will never happen. As a result, they escalate the use of force and, in the end, wind up abusing their kids in a way they never imagined.

3. Violence raises a future aggressor.

Children who were physically punished throughout their childhood are more prone to use violence against their own children and partners. They even have a higher risk of becoming law offenders.

And it’s no wonder, parents words can persuade kids, but their example has a much bigger impact on them. If a mom or dad uses a slap to resolve a conflict, that’s what the kid will learn and do.

4. Children can start suffering from depression.

If your partner hit you, would you still think he loves you? Hardly, and the same happens with a child. Little ones begin to have doubts about their mom and dad’s love the minute they exert physical punishments on them.

Given that a child’s life revolves around their parents, they start feeling completely unloved and can begin suffering from clinical depression. This affects a child’s socialization process and frustrates them.

5. It literally sickens children.

Just by consistently witnessing violence, a kid reaches stress levels that deteriorate their immune system.

Facing regular physical punishments has a much powerful effect because it degenerates the immune system in such a way that the child becomes more susceptible to diseases.

In cases where the kid suffers from severe health conditions, it worsens them.

What you can do instead when…

You’re running out of patience

Reconsider your expectations and ask yourself if your kid’s behavior is in accordance with his or her age and stage of child development, like the never-ending “why” of 2-year-olds.

This may delay your impulse and help you reflect on the case with a much more benevolent attitude.

You’ve repeatedly asked them to behave, but they keep disobeying

Avoid assuming a child knows what his mistake was or what you mean when you say “play nice.”

Be precise about what is wrong and why.

A simple “don’t pinch your brother, it hurts” will do.

Your kid is about to lose control

When kids are about to get out of control, responding in a way that gives away tension tends to worsen the situation.

Stay calm, make eye contact, and lower your voice. Calm has a powerful ability to recall peace.

Your kid is having a temper tantrum

Use your time-out card. Calmly take your child to a quiet place and explain why their behavior isn’t acceptable.

Then tell them that they can return to their game once they’ve calmed down and wait for 2 minutes.

If arguing or screaming restarts, start counting down the 2 minutes again.

Your older boy or girl doesn’t want to listen to you

Allow for the consequences of their bad behavior if you’re sure they won’t harm him or her. They’ll be able to learn from their mistakes. “I told you so” is prohibited!

Have you ever practiced any of these tips? Would you also say parents are impacted by spanking their kids? Have your say below!

14 People From Different Professions Share Facts That Almost Nobody Knows About

0

A Reddit user wanted to find out what little-known facts we don’t know about popular professions.

And he found out that all planes have small insignificant problems, changing your password every 3 months doesn’t protect you from hackers, and Kim Kardashian might be wearing a wig.

We chose the most interesting facts from the thread and found partial or complete confirmation for them.

Rescue crew worker: “Drowning is silent. I pulled out a kid literally less than a foot away from a large group of adults and not one of them noticed that his head was totally submerged and that he was struggling.”

This is true. A drowning person just can’t physically call for help: in order to scream, they need to take a breath. And most of the time, in these situations, they can’t even wave their hands because people instinctively put their hands to the sides to try to stay afloat.

***

IT-specialist: “A corporate policy requiring users to change their passwords every 90 days does not make your system more secure. It tends to actually make things less secure.”

This is partially true. On one hand, changing a password often forces people to make up new passwords quickly.

They often take their old password and change just a couple of characters. Of course, this can’t protect them from a hack.

On the other hand, if you make up a new unique password and regularly change it, your data will most likely stay intact.

***

Psychologist: “Most people are not good at detecting lies and consistently score no better than chance (50/50) when tested.

The score goes up slightly when it’s someone they know that they’re talking to, but not by much. Ironically, most people rate themselves as very good at detecting lies, but they’re actually wrong.”

This is true. Researchers did an experiment: people were supposed to figure out if a person was lying to them or not. And only in 54 % of cases were they able to guess right.

Tattoo artist: “Touching your fresh tattoo with your unwashed fingers is bad. It’s absurd how many times we have to tell this to people.”

This is true. A fresh tattoo is basically an open wound. You shouldn’t touch it with dirty fingers because you might get it infected. And it is best not to touch the tattoo at all even if you have clean hands. This way, it will heal better.

Hairdresser: “You cannot go from having black hair to silver or platinum blonde in one sitting. It takes multiple and 9 times out of 10, your hair is fried beyond repair by the end of it. Kim Kardashian is wearing a wig.”

This is partially true. The darker the hair, the more bleaching it will take you to lighten your hair. And the time between the treatments should be long (at least a couple of weeks) in order to not harm your hair. If all the safety measures were taken into account, you can lighten the hair and keep it beautiful and healthy. When it comes to the number of visits, it is all individual: if you have really dark hair, it might take you about 10 visits to go blonde.

***

Sailor: “More people die in lifeboat drills than they do in any other marine incidents.”

This is probably true. Unfortunately, there is no reliable information about accidents in the sea. But experienced sailors say that there are actually more problems with lifeboats that it might seem. For example, some safety measures are not always taken, so lifeboats are not fixed well enough and they turn over or fall down from a great height with the passengers inside.

Coffee shop employee: “Coffee shops spend more on milk than coffee.”

This is partially true. In fact, the most important product in any business is a paper cup. They actually cost more money than coffee beans. And the price of milk is pretty much the same as the price of coffee, but it may vary from one cafe to another.

***

Engineer: “The toner in your printer is plastic being melted on to the paper.”

This is true. It contains polymer compounds, coloring, and magnetic materials. So, dry toner is actually dangerous for your health especially if you breathe it in.

Elevator operator: “An elevator will go up to the top of the hoist instead of crash to the floor in most catastrophic failures due to the counterweights.”

This is partially true. Elevators don’t have just one cable, they have 3 and more. Every one of them has the power of 3,5 tons. It’s almost impossible to break all of them. But if it did actually happen, a safety mechanism for speed limitation is activated. It will make the elevator go down slowly or stop completely.

***

Oncologist: “Potential cancer cells develop in the human body every day and our immune system efficiently kills them without any trouble and we just go on living our lives like nothing ever happened.”

This is true. The human body produces an uncountable number of cells every day. Some of them are potentially dangerous: if they are not killed instantly, they can form a cancer tumor. Our immune system works on locating and destroying them every day.

***

Child psychologist: “The best treatment for a child with anxiety is treating their parent’s anxiety.”

This is true. It happens very often that anxious parents provoke anxiety in their children. So adult people should have some therapy to reduce the anxiety in their children.

Pilot: “There is no such thing as a perfectly functioning aircraft. Every plane you fly on has a multitude of maintenance issues, just not severe enough to affect the safety of the flight.”

This is probably true. Former employees of airline companies say that almost all aircrafts have technical problems. The question is more about how dangerous they are: if a malfunction that can put the success of the flight at risk is found, the plane will not fly anywhere.

Doctor: “Most herbal supplements can and will give you adverse/side effects when mixed with other medications. ALWAYS tell your doctor everything you’re taking.”

This is true. More than that, herbs can be dangerous on their own unless you consult a doctor in advance. This is because many plants contain poisonous compounds. They can be good for health in small or medium amounts, but if you take too many, you can do yourself some serious harm.

***

Neurologist: “Neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc…) start way before the first symptoms appear. No one wakes up suddenly one day with Alzheimer’s. From actual data, it seems that the disease is rampant for 10-15 years before the first symptoms. Some research says that you can start identifying abnormalities 20+ years before the memory loss begins. And this works for all neurodegenerative diseases.”

This is true. The problem is, the early symptoms of dementia are often confused with changes in character.

A Woman From Indiana Shared a Quirky Way to Cure Unbearable Migraines in 20 Minutes

0

Migraines, which are incredibly painful headaches, made the top 3 of the world’s most common illnesses.

While drugs and supplements are usually the go-to emergency solution, they might not always be available when a migraine strikes.

Luckily, a woman from Indiana claims to have found a trick to get rid of a migraine fast — with just one household tool!

We understand how awful migraines can be, which is why we’re here to share this newfound trick with you and hopefully spare you from a ruined day.

After suffering from a splitting headache for over 12 hours, Elizabeth Hayes, from Indiana, decided to seek relief from her pain.

However, after trying several painkillers and home remedies, her pain still persisted. So she took matters into her own hands and tried a different kind of solution instead.

On her search through the internet, Elizabeth found a device specifically meant to cure migraines through the science of acupressure.

However, not having the time to order the device online, she found a replacement using something most of us have in our homes — a food clip.

By clasping the food clip between her thumb and forefinger, her pain halved within the next 20 minutes.

Relieved and surprised by this trick, Elizabeth quickly shared the experience on her Facebook page to help other migraine sufferers.

Her post quickly went viral.

Many commented that they had tried this trick before, and not just with a food clip but with any object that applies pressure to the area between the thumb and forefinger.

You can even your use thumb and forefinger to pinch the pressure point!

Why does this work?

Acupressure is an ancient form of Chinese medicine, according to which each organ in the body is connected to a point.

By putting physical pressure to these points, people are able to find relief from their symptoms.

The reason why this works is because the pressure is enough to restore the natural flow of energy in the body, which is needed to combat any disease or pain.

According to acupressure, the area between the thumb and the forefinger, known as He Gu, is one of the acupoints that can help you get relief from stress and migraines.

This point is connected to the large intestine, which means that it can also help with digestive issues.

While this is a great solution for those looking for alternative ways to address aches, keep in mind that pregnant women should not practice it.

Have you ever tried acupressure for your migraine?

Or maybe you know of other tricks that can eliminate the pain?

11 Fragrances That Kill Mosquitoes on the Spot

0

In the summer, we all want to spend more time out in the fresh air, take walks in the park, and enjoy the greenery and flowers.

But mosquitoes can ruin even the most wonderful vacations.

We’ve found the recipes for natural fragrances that will scare the mosquitoes away, so you can enjoy the pleasures of summer.

1. Vanilla powder

Mix vanilla powder with baby lotion in the ratio of 1 to 10 and apply it to all the open parts of your body.

You can also dissolve vanillin in water and then spray the mixture on the exposed areas of your skin and your clothes.

2. Essential oils of anise, clove, basil, and eucalyptus

The essential oils of anise, clove, basil, and eucalyptus can scare mosquitoes away if you apply the diluted oils on the exposed areas of your skin (5-10 drops per glass of water) or spray them onto a source of heat, like a fireplace, an aroma lamp, or a heated pan.

You can also dip a cotton ball into the oil and put it on the window sill.

3. Elderflower twigs

Put fresh elderflower twigs in your room. They will scare mosquitoes away just as easily as tomato leaves.

But be careful, the strong smell of elderflower can interrupt your sleep, so it’s better to take the twigs out of your bedroom at night.

4. Clove

Put 5 g of cloves into a glass of water and boil them for 15 minutes.

Mix 10 drops of this brew with 1 tbsp of any cologne and apply the concoction to the exposed areas of your body.

Now you can stay in the open for at least 2 hours, and mosquitoes and gnats will stay away from you.

5. Juniper branches

If you decide to make a fire when sitting outside drop a few juniper branches into it.

6. Cedar oil

The smell of cedar oil scares away not only mosquitoes, but also flies and cockroaches.

7. Sage grass brew

Not a single insect will touch your face if you wash it with the brew of sage grass roots. You need to put a handful of chopped roots into 0.4 gallons of water, bring it to a boil, and let it steep for 20-30 minutes.

8. Pyrethrum

Pyrethrum daisy or Dalmatian chrysanthemum is an old natural remedy against mosquitoes.

The dried flowers, stems, and leaves of this plant can be ground to a powder and will affect the nerve cells of insects.

You can just put a few small bunches of pyrethrum around your apartment or house.

9. Wheatgrass brew

In old times, people used the brew of wheatgrass roots to scare away mosquitoes and other blood sucking insects.

Put a handful of the chopped roots of wheatgrass into 0.4 gallons of water and boil them 3 times so that the brew becomes a light yellow color.

Wash your face and hands with this brew, and not a single mosquito will come near you.

10. Basil leaves

You can use the chopped fresh leaves and flowers of basil, or bird cherry flowers.

Put them in your room or rub them on the exposed areas of your body.

11. Cooking oil, shampoo, and vinegar

To make an effective repellent against mosquitoes and flies, you’ll need cheap cooking oil, shampoo, and 9% vinegar.

Mix these ingredients in equal quantities and stir them thoroughly until you see white foam.

You can spray this concoction on your body, or pour it into a container and leave it open.

The vinegar scares away insects, the shampoo hides the strong smell while the oil is the base of any cream.

This repellent is safe for children and doesn’t have strong smell.

The key to success is persistence and consistency, meaning, if you want to have an attractive butt, you should pay attention to it every day.

That’s when Victoria’s Secret models’ video tutorials can come in handy.

The girls train with a personal trainer and on their own.

We’ve looked through their training videos and realized that these exercises are pretty easy. Besides, Angels like to experiment and they’ve upgraded the basic exercises.

Two women hospitalized after using vacuum cleaners to “end period early”

0

‘That’ time of the month is never fun. For anyone…

Of course, we’re talking about menstruation, and the week wherein heavy periods become a common affair.

Now, there are ways, both through science and nature, to lighten periods and tackle the side-effects, those that some of us opt for in a bid for relief.

It’s come to our attention, however, that some women are going for a more DIY method of late, and frankly the lengths they’re going to in order to bring about an early end to their period are terrifying.

Daysy Fertility Tracker (@daysyfertilitytracker)’in paylaştığı bir gönderi ()

So it has come to pass that through a tweet issued by a nurse, the warning is now out for any woman considering using a vacuum cleaner – yes, you read that right – in an attempt to suck the blood out of their body.

Health.com claim that at least two women have wound up in the emergency room after trying this frightening technique. Word to the wise: it’s extremely dangerous.

The nurse who delivered the warning goes by the username OdesseyT99, and took to Twitter to write: “Ladies… Please stop using your vacuum hose to end your period early. You’re gonna wind up sucking out a lot more than blood! There were two cases of this so far this week and both women had to be admitted. Just… STOP!”

Medically Speaking (@drzobo)’in paylaştığı bir gönderi ()

It should come as no surprise that people are keen to spread this warning so that women are warned against the potential dangers. The nurse’s tweet has accumulated over 5,000 likes and 2,400 retweets, with the general consensus being shock that this practise is even taking place.

Let it be stated in clear terms that using a vacuum to attempt to put an early end to a period is extremely dangerous and can result in permanent damage.

Health.com spoke to Sophia Yen, MD, a clinical associate professor at Stanford School of Medicine. She confirmed just how much risk using a vacuum poses.

“It’s not safe because the body wants to shed in a safe way. To me, it would be like ripping off a scab. It’s disrupting a natural, safe process. It might make you bleed more—your body’s shedding and trying to heal,” she said.

Cure foot pain in minutes with these 5 effective exercises

0

We’re probably all aware that our bones are connected with each other, and that pain in one area of our body can easily lead to problems elsewhere.

For example, the pain in our feet can actually originate in your leg.

Of course, there are many causes of foot pain, and to be on the safe side, it’s always best to seek medical advice.

But there are also some simple but effective exercises you can try at home.

Sure, these might not be the most enjoyable exercises, but if you spend a few minutes a few times a week, your feet will be much happier.

Heel raises

The calf muscles and ligaments near the heel are incredibly important to the health of your feet.

Stand on a step with your heels hanging off of a step. Then raise and lower your heels. Repeat 10 times two or times times a week.

Arch stretches

This exercise can enhance your feet’s range of movement and it can also counter pain in your arches. The easiest way to do this exercise is sit down in a chair and put one of your feet on your knee.

Grab hold of your toes and pull them gently up and back. This movement stretches the tendon and muscle tissue that connects the heel to the toes.

Try to hold this position for 10 seconds and repeat on each foot 10 times.

Tennis ball foot exercise

A tennis ball is an excellent tool to massage your feet.

Roll the ball under your foot while pressing a little bit. Do it for about a minute before switching feet. It’s a perfect way to get the blood circulating!

Toe stretches

You probably don’t think about your toe muscles very often, but they need to be activated and receive love. These muscles perform an important function, since strong toe muscles improve balance and increase flexibility in the feet.

Put a strong rubber band around your toes and try to splay them apart. The rubber band should provide some resistance, so be sure to have a proper rubber band. Splay your toes for five seconds and repeat 10 times on each foot.

Toe curls

You can do this challenging exercise both sitting and standing.

Start by placing a small towel on the floor in front of you. Try grabbing a towel using your toes and then try to pull the towel toward you.

You can also try to pick up dice, marbles, or the like with your toes. Repeat 4-5 times for each foot.

Bonus tips:

1. Wear the right shoes. Shoes that have plenty of room for your toes, fit well, and keep your foot stable are preferable. You could also try getting shoes with arch support that lifts up and supports your longitudinal arch.

2. Treat yourself to a foot bath. A foot bath with epsom salts is great for worn and tired feet and also increases the intake of magnesium.

3. Try yoga. Yoga is an excellent way to help strengthen muscles and balance your legs and feet.

4. Go barefoot. Walking barefoot stimulates blood circulation, which in turn provides better oxygenation. Your feet contain many nerve endings, and contacting the ground can reduce stress and speed up recovery.

5. Consult a specialist. Go to a doctor if you suffer from unbearable, constant foot pain.
